# Add tags and properties to stories

## What are tags?

Tags are metadata that editorial teams can assign to FORGE entities. Tags link entities to the content taxonomy. An entity can have as many tags as required.

The benefits of adding tags:

- The Page Builder can refer to the content dynamically by tag instead of using the slug — see [The page](/v1/docs/pages) for more information.
- Grouping many entities into an editorial selection — see [Editorial lists and featured content](/v1/docs/editorial-lists-and-featured-content) for more information.
- Helps organize stories. For example, tagging Jim Mij to a story makes it much easier to find that particular story. See[Searching entities](/v1/docs/searching-entities)for more information.

### Internal versus external tags

Editorial teams can create tags in the FORGE Back Office and import tags from external sources. See [External tags](/v1/docs/external-tags) for further information.

## What is a context?

A context is a single tag that editors use to group stories logically. For example, when a story has a 'breaking news' context, the front-end implementation displays the story in the area that's dedicated to breaking news information.
