# Menus

This article introduces the navigation options available in your apps, including primary menus, sub-menus, and the mobile navigation bar.

## What are menus?

Menu options control the header, footer, and account menu structure, as well as the mobile navigation bar, within your apps. Menus are the first point of discovery for your users. Presentation Manager gives you the ability to configure them to your use case and create menu [variants](/v1/docs/variants-and-segmentation) that target specific devices, [user groups](/v1/docs/user-groups), [languages](/v1/docs/languages), [segmentation tags](/v1/docs/set-variant-scheduling), [dates](/v1/docs/set-variant-scheduling), and/or times of the day.

Create a navigational structure that includes both *primary* and *sub-menus*, and use icons to provide additional visual aids in the navigation.

### What are primary menus?

Primary menu items are displayed within the navigation bar at the top of the screen. Use them to link to your existing application pages to promote your key content categories to end-users.

Here's an example from a responsive web application. *Home*, *Movies*, and *TV Shows* are all primary menu items.

Read our article to find out how to [set up primary menus](/v1/docs/creating-primary-menus).

### What are sub-menus?

[Sub-menus](/v1/docs/add-sub-menus), sometimes referred to as *drawers*, extend the primary menu to provide additional links and assets. You can view sub-menu items by hovering over a primary menu item.

In this example, *TV genres* and *Bookmarked shows* are sub-menu groups within the *Home* primary menu.

The [mobile navigation bar](/v1/docs/menus-menus#mobile-navigation-bar) uses a sub-menu structure. An iOS example is shown below. *Home*, *Live*, *Search*, and *Downloads* (seen across the bottom of the app) are all sub-menu items.

### Where do I find the menu settings?

To configure your menus, select DISPLAY, followed by *Menus*. Select an existing menu [variant](/v1/docs/variants-and-segmentation) to configure the options for that menu.

Find out how to create menu variants by reading [editing menu variants](/v1/docs/editing-menu-variants).
