# User profiles

App users can create and edit their own profiles, switching between profiles if required.

User profiles can help gain a better understanding of your audience, which you can utilize to deliver targeted user experiences on a per-profile basis.

> [!NOTE]
> **Note:** Users can create up to five profiles per account.

Select a platform below to see how profiles work across the different Apps:

Responsive WebTV AppsNative mobileiPad/Tablet

## Profile types

There are three types of user profiles available in the Apps:

1. A standard profile that has access to all content (based on entitlements).
2. A kid's profile that works with the configuration of Segmentation Tags in Presentation Manager to only display content appropriate for children.

> [!NOTE]
> **Note:** This is different from the [Parental Lock](/v1/docs/parental-lock) in that children will not be able to see any inappropriate content, whereas the Parental Lock stops content being watched without a PIN, but the application still displays it.
3. A restricted profile that has access to all content (based on entitlements) and also requires a PIN for access.

> [!NOTE]
> **Note:** If a user with a restricted profile forgets their PIN, then creates a new PIN using the *Forgot your PIN?* link, they need to sign in again to validate their new PIN.

> [!WARNING]
> **Compatibility note:**The *Forgot your PIN?* link is available on native Apple (Deltatre Apps v1.0 onwards), Android (Deltatre Apps v1.4 onwards) and Responsive Web (Deltatre Apps v1.4 onwards).

## Managing profiles

To manage their profiles, users need to navigate to the [*Account*](/v1/docs/account-page) page, then scroll down to the *Profiles* section.

![User profiles displayed with different access levels and an option to add a new profile.](https://cdn.document360.io/2e698e3c-4773-44a4-9476-1d05bac85eee/Images/Documentation/ProfilesRWManage.png)

> [!NOTE]
> **Note:** Users with a standard or restricted profile can access the full *Account* page. If a kids profile is active, all the user sees is their own profile, where they can only change the name of their profile.

### Creating a new profile

Selecting the *Add Profile* button in the *Profiles* section of the *Account* page opens the *Create Profile* page, from where your users can select a profile type and give that profile a name (and a PIN if necessary) before creating it. After this it is available to switch to.

![User interface for creating a profile with options for standard, kids and restricted access.](https://cdn.document360.io/2e698e3c-4773-44a4-9476-1d05bac85eee/Images/Documentation/ProfilesRWCreate(2).png)

- When a restricted profile is created, it requires a 5-digit PIN for that profile to be set at the same time. If a profile has its type changed to restricted later, the PIN needs to be created then.

> [!NOTE]
> **Note:** If the maximum number of profiles already exist, the *Add Profile* button doesn’t display.

### Viewing and editing existing profiles

In the *Profiles* section of the *Account* page, the account’s existing profiles are listed. From here, they can be edited to be renamed or have the profile type changed, or be deleted.

If a user has the primary profile active, they can manage any profile by selecting the profile icon to either delete the profile or open the *Edit Profile* page.

Otherwise, they can only manage their currently active profile by selecting it. If they want to manage a different profile, selecting it prompts them to switch to that profile.

#### The primary profile

The primary profile, by default, is a standard profile. It can be changed to restricted, but not kids. It has considerably more editing power than other profiles. It can:

- Change the profile type of any other profile. It is the only profile that can change a kids profile to standard/restricted.
- Add or remove a PIN from another profile if changing its profile type to/from restricted.
- Delete other profiles.

However, it can’t update the names of other profiles, or delete itself.

Meanwhile, non-primary profiles can only change their own profile (including name, type [between standard and restricted only] and PIN), or delete their own profile.

> [!NOTE]
> **Note:** When editing an active Kids profile, users are only able to update their profile name - they can’t switch to another profile type, and they can’t delete their own profile.

## Switching profiles

If, at any point, your users wish to switch profiles without going into the *Account* page, they can hover over the profile icon and select *Switch profile*.

This then displays the *Who’s watching?* page, from where they can select a different profile.

If switching to a restricted profile, users are prompted to enter their 5-digit PIN.
