This article introduces DIVA Player compliance with regional regulations by displaying appropriate age ratings and content advisories via an overlay the start of video playback.
What is the age rating and content advisory overlay?
The overlay displays appropriate age ratings and content advisories, helping to inform app users of the suitability and nature of the content. Users are given contextual details about why the content has the received that rating, helping users decide whether they wish to continue.
The age rating and content advisory overlay is configurable per project and territory and ensures DIVA Player is compliant with regional regulations.
On tvOS, age rating and content advisory details display within the Info drawer.
Age rating and content advisory overlay behavior
The age rating and content advisory overlay displays after the playback UI controls hide, fading away automatically without interrupting playback. This applies to every DIVA initialization event, including:
First playback of a video
Resuming from a pause or resume point
Switching to a different video
Scrubbing back to the start (time 0)
Replaying a video
Overlay duration
Operators can configure the Duration time (how many milliseconds the overlay displays), and the Start time (how many milliseconds after the video starts before the overlay appears).
By default, the overlay remains visible for five seconds. After the display duration is reached, the overlay fades out smoothly without disrupting video playback.
Interacting with controls
Any app user input that causes the DIVA playback UI controls to reappear (initiating play/pause/bringing up the navigation), while the age rating and content advisory overlay displays, causes the overlay to hide. Once playback UI controls hide again, the overlay re-displays until the full configured duration is reached. For example, if the overlay was visible for two seconds before playback UI controls displayed, it shows again for an additional five seconds once playback UI controls hide.
Metadata handling and configuration
If AXIS Presentation Manager is part of your workflow, configure age rating settings per project and territory through AXIS metadata integration as part of the project deployment setup via the Core Admin Tool (CAT).
AXIS Presentation Manager, or the containing App provides the metadata (icon URL, Advisory, and rating description) specific to each territory. DIVA Player consumes this metadata, displaying accurate ratings accordingly.
In the DIVA videometadata settings, configure the overlay Duration time and Start time.
Ensure that content workflows account for all relevant initialization events where ratings should display (first play, resume points, scrubbing to start).
It’s possible to configure the age rating and content advisory alert colored bar, however, by default, it’s set to the DIVA orange branding.
