Create and edit navigation rules

In this article, we cover how to manage navigation rules.

Introduction

Within FORGE, content is arranged into distinct entity types, such as stories or albums. The entity navigation defines which page an entity of a specific type must render through navigation rules.

The next paragraph shows step-by-step how to create and edit navigation rules.

Create and edit rules

1. Select the Navigation icon in the left menu.
    

2. The Navigation Rules page displays with:
   1. The anchor list of the entity types with at least one navigation rule — find a detailed description of a navigation rule in the The entity navigation article.
   2. The expanded list of the entity types and their linked navigation rules.
   3. The search button to find navigation rules by page or conditions — find a detailed description of a condition in the The entity navigation article.
    

3. Either select the navigation rule to edit, or select the   button to create the new navigation rule.

4. On the right-side, the Navigation Rule box displays
    

5. Select which entity the new navigation rule must apply to:

   Free-text option available

   If the drop-down doesn’t list the entity you need, you can write the entity name as free-text.

    Tip: When accessing the Entity box, you get a list of the entity types that are already linked to a navigation rule.

6. Set up the conditions of the navigation rule:

   If the Attribute and Value drop-down don’t list the criteria you need, you can write both as free-text.

   

   Tip: When accessing the Entity box, a list of the entity types that are already linked to a navigation rule display.

7. Select which page the front-end must render for entities of the selected type (step 5.) and matching selected conditions (step 6.):
    
   The popup page displays that allows selecting either an internal link or an external link:
    
   Select the   button to confirm the selected page.

8. When the selected page contains a URI variable (e.g., {slug} in …/target/detail-{slug}), the section WHERE displays that allows you to select which entity attribute must value the URI variable (e.g., the attribute can be story.slug). All the entity attributes are available, regardless of the attribute strutcture (e.g., attributes like story.languages.french.slug).
   

9. Optionally, add a description:
    

10. In the bottom-right, select either the   button to confirm changes or the   button to create the new navigation rule.
