Import entities from external sources

Connecting FORGE to external sources

FORGE provides integrators with the user interface and workflow to import editorial information into the FORGE Content Manager.

To enable the import feature,

  • Integrators must implement an external feed for each entity type and source.
FORGE can import entities of the same type (e.g., Brightcove videos) from many sources: each source requires a dedicated external feed.
Each external feed queries and gets data from the external source. When getting data, it converts it into the corresponding FORGE entities.

  • Administrators must configure the external feeds.

How to import entities

Note: Entity types without configured external feeds cannot make use of the import feature.

Editorial teams can import entities from configured external feeds by hitting the button on the entity overview page.

For example, for Brightcove Video entities, selecting displays the import page listing the entities that can be imported.

The search abilities depend on the sources because the import page queries from the configured external sources.

A Sources filter allows listing entities from a specific source. The pagination of the search results is available only when filtering by ‌source.

Hitting thebutton runs the import for the selected videos.

In the case of import errors, a popup window lists what went wrong.

Entities successfully created keep a trace of the source they come from:

  • Datasource name: The source's name. E.g., BrightcoveVideos in the screenshot below.

  • Datasource id: The identifier of data in the source. E.g., 5581230485001 in the screenshot below.
