Lock icons

Prev Next

Lock icons are displayed on assets for unentitled users, indicating the content is on the service but not available to the user due to a lack of entitlement.

Compatibility notes: This functionality is available from AXIS Presentation Manager 10.0 onwards, and in the Deltatre apps from v1.5 (Roku v1.2, and Apple v1.1).

We’ve developed the display of lock icons, helping App users easily identify which content is available/not available to them. Typical use cases include showing the lock icon to anonymous users or registered users who are not subscribed.

The lock icon appears on content that users are not entitled to watch. This signifies content is not part of their subscription and, although they can see the content, they cannot watch it without a subscription. For content in Body rows, the lock icons display in the bottom-left corner of unentitled assets. Content in Hero rows displays the lock icon on all unentitled assets.

Depending on how your service offers content, for example, if some content is available only for users who are subscribed, appropriate text such as Subscription required displays next to the lock icon on Hero rows (this text is customizable). In addition, an appropriate CTA (for example, Sign In/Subscribe) is displayed below the lock icon to give users easy access to be able to watch the locked content. Once a user is entitled to watch the content, the lock icon disappears.

To configure lock icons

To configure lock icons, there is a property in ADMIN > Settings > System > Display entitled Show Lock Icon, where it can be Enabled (this is the default) or Disabled. When set to enabled, the lock icon is displayed in all compatible rows (see below) where entitlement is needed to watch an asset.

The following rows support the display of lock icons in the Apps:

Row type

Anonymous users (not logged in)

Signed in but not subscribed users

Subscribed users

VIP users

Hero rows

Anonymous (not logged in) App users see the lock icon and 'Sign in to watch’ copy next to the lock icon.

Signed in but not subscribed App users see the lock icon and the ‘Subscription required’ copy next to the lock icon.

Signed in, subscribed App users who are not entitled see the lock icon and the ‘Subscription required’ copy next to the lock icon.

VIP App users are entitled to all content by default and therefore do not see the lock icon.

Body rows

Anonymous (not logged in) App users see the lock icon on asset tiles they are not entitled to.

Signed in but not subscribed App users see the lock icon on asset tiles they are not entitled to.

Subscribed App users who are not entitled see the lock icon on assets they are not entitled to.

VIP App users are entitled to all content by default and therefore do not see the lock icon on assets they are not entitled to.
